Become a Repeater Host
Got a high spot, a window, or a roof? Hosting a repeater is the single best way to grow the mesh.
What should I buy?
Get the US 915 MHz version.
Most good out-of-the-box repeaters start around $150, but if you're into DIY projects you can build your own for as little as $50 to $75.
Small US builders
These are small US makers and indie shops that sell ready-made or nearly ready-made MeshCore-capable repeaters and nodes; listing them isn't an endorsement, so check current stock, firmware options, and reviews before you buy.
- CurlyMeshworks (Etsy): handmade curly maple wood enclosures for LoRa radios like the 1 W T-Beam.
- GrumpyMesh (shop): solar repeaters built for MeshCore and hurricane weather (1 W King Peater, Grumpy X, Grumpy Jr), plus the 1 W Grumpy Board.
- Atlavox: the Beacon solar node (RAK4631). You can order it flashed and set up as a MeshCore repeater. Rhode Island.
- MeshSmith (shop): 1 W LoRa boards (PiMesh-1W Pi HAT, Photon-1W solar-ready node, EtherMesh-1W PoE) and Outpost aluminum outdoor enclosures. Assembled in the USA.
- PeakMesh (Etsy): hand-built RAK-based solar nodes (Ultimate, MicroMag, Altitude, Magnet Climber, and more). They run Meshtastic or MeshCore.
- SpecFive (Spec5): the Relay Lite compact solar repeater, which you can order with MeshCore firmware. Made in Florence, Texas.
- 3D Security LLC (3Dsafe): small-batch 3D-printed solar and pole repeaters and nodes for Meshtastic and MeshCore. Many listings are custom or regional, so ask first. Middletown, Connecticut.
- Frequency Labs (Etsy): MeshAdv 1 W Raspberry Pi LoRa HATs for Pi-based fixed repeaters. pyMC_Repeater, a Python repeater for MeshCore, supports them. Michigan.
Bigger names
Every device below is in the official MeshCore flasher.
- RAKwireless (WisMesh): the WisMesh Repeater Mini, an IP67 solar repeater built on the RAK4631. It ships with Meshtastic; re-flash it as a MeshCore repeater with the RAK4631 option in the MeshCore flasher.
- Seeed Studio (SenseCAP): the SenseCAP Solar Node P1-Pro, a solar node with built-in batteries and GPS, sold pre-flashed with MeshCore repeater firmware.
- Pocket radio: Seeed SenseCAP T1000-E (rugged, water-resistant, several-day battery). Also good: Seeed Wio Tracker L1 Pro, LilyGo T-Deck Plus (keyboard and screen).
- Repeater: Heltec V4, Heltec Mesh Node T096 (lower power draw), or a ready-made solar unit like the Heltec MeshTower V2 (seal it well against moisture).
I want to run a repeater. What's different?
Thank you! Flash Repeater at the flasher, then set it up over USB at https://config.meshcore.io. Set a name, change the admin password (the default is password), set a neighborhood-level location, and then run:
set radio 910.525,62.5,7,8 (then reboot)
set path.hash.mode 1
set agc.reset.interval 4
set multi.acks 1
set advert.interval 240
set flood.advert.interval 23
- Use the latest firmware (1.14 or newer, so the repeater forwards 1-, 2-, and 3-byte paths).
- Region codes: our area is
us-ms-gpt(Gulfport–Biloxi MS Mesh), which covers Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Stone, and George counties (see region boundaries on MeshMapper). On repeaters only, run:
(region def us|* us-gc|* us-ms|* us-ms-gpt|* us-ms-gpt-mm|* us-south|* us-southeast region saveregion def/region savesyntax per the official CLI docs.) - Then tap Send Advert.
- Post it on Discord in
#nodes-and-mapwhen it's up, so we can add it to the map.
